Gradually craftsmen developed their skills and started building more and more beautiful churches. During the period of High Middle Ages they covered Christian temples with roves in the shape of a half of a ball. These we call domes. From the inside, the domes looked like skies. Medieval churches were decorated with pictures made of thousands of little stones. They are called mosaics.
