ANCIENT SITE
It may sound strange, but often we learn about the life of our ancestors from their funerals. The places, where they were buried are called necropolises. Tombs were built for the rulers and noble citizens. During the Thracian and the oldest Greek culture – that of Mycenae, the tombs were buried with earth and so the mounds were shaped. The mound was surrounded by a stone wall, called krepida. Most frequently the tomb consisted of a burial chamber, which was accessed via a long corridor, called dromos. The chamber was covered by a cupola. Between the chamber and the dromos usually there was a connecting premise, called stomion.
