The sanctuary is separated from the basilica by a partition, called iconostasis. The central place in the iconostasis is taken by the holy gates – the place which provides access to the sanctuary. On both sides of the gates there are icons. The icon of Jesus Christ is always on the right side, and on the left side is the icon of Virgin Mary. Next to this icon is placed the icon of the saint, patron of the church.
