The religious home of the Jewish is called synagogue.
Most frequently, these buildings are of rectangular shape. The synagogues have windows, so that praying people can see the sky. It is mandatory to have an entrance corridor. The central place is called prayer hall.
The Ark – the holy chest - occupies a key place in the Synagogue. It is placed in a niche, usually just opposite the temple’s entry. The synagogue is always pointing to Jerusalem – a holy place for pilgrimage in the Near East. The Ark keeps the Torah – the holy scroll-book of the Jewish. The Torah is read from a special platform in the temple, called tevah or bimah.
