The impressive building of the synagogue was constructed by the Jewish community in 1894. This house of prayer is located in Vidin, near the Baba Vida fortress. In the middle of the 20th century the building lost its main function and was used as a warehouse. Its condition consequently deteriorated.
Today one stands before its impressive façade. The central entrance has a semi-circular arch standing on couple of columns. The centre features a round window with iron bars in the form of the star of David – the Jewish symbol. Two high towers complete the silhouette of the synagogue. They are adorned with windows with coloured glass, called stained glass windows, and with decorative bars. Enter and you will find yourself in a symmetrical space. On both sides you will see rows of columns, behind which two other spaces called naves peep. That is why the building is of the three-nave type. Across the entrance you will see the most sacred place in the synagogue. Above it shines a symbol of the sun. The walls are decorated in blue, white, red and bronze. Look closer and you will see ancient Jewish symbols and forms.
Today the building is in the process of restoration.
