The construction of the Cistercian monastery “The Holy Assumption” is related to the arrival of Trappist Franz Pffaner to Bosnia. He selected the location of the future monastery “Mariastern” (“Maria Star”) on the bank of the Vrbas river. The monastery church was completed in 1873. The monastery possesses remarkable assets: a valuable library, a rich collection of works of art, as well as a rich collection of metal liturgical objects, mass vestments and wooden furniture.
