This fortress is on an islet facing the entrance to St. Ante’s channel and the port of Shibenik. It was designed by the Renaissance architect Michele Sanmicheli. The fortress was built on two levels. The lower part, at sea level, has a space allowing the defenders to fire at sailing targets. It is covered with large vaults and has cannon openings in the walls. Above it, on a higher platform, are several military structures, the captain’s quarters and a small chapel.
