The development of mining and metal production in central Bosnia in the middle ages was facilitated by numerous ore deposits, an extensive river network and rich forests.  For a long time, the most important product of medieval blacksmiths was the horse plate – a metal plate used as a horseshoe. It was produced until the 1950s when it was replaced by the modern horseshoe. Finding a lost horseshoe is said to bring luck.
