Tatul – Thracian sanctuary
ABOUT THE TREASURE
Parts of a Thracian fortress can be found in the vicinity of Tatul village. The remains of religious buildings of the ancient Thracians also remain to this day. We call the place a sanctuary because, according to scholars, it was most probably sacred for the people in those times.
Our ancestors created the sanctuary back in the 12th century before Christ. They hewed two tombs in a large rock. The masters cut out eight steps, as well as a small niche. There the Thracians would place a sacred clay slab with the figure of a rider. It was used in special rituals. It is assumed that the sanctuary was dedicated to the mythical musician Orpheus.
The fortress of the Thracian sanctuary was also used during the Middle Ages. Today the place tells tales of many different generations.
