Vranduk is situated in the valley of the Bosna River, near Zenica. Thanks to its natural and geographical position the town has guarded the important strategic road passing alongside and leading to central Bosna. A specific feature of the settlement is the fact that the fort and the town below are related and make a whole unit. Despite the subsequent repairs, this fortress has preserved its original simple shapes, a reminiscent of the early European fortifications. It is assumed that Vranduk was built at the end of the 14th century and in the next 15th century it was the only fortified town in the mediaeval Bosnian perish of Brod. It is first mentioned in 1410 while and at the end of the 19th century the town lost its strategic importance.
