The Fortress of Kruja, about 30 kilometers from Tirana, is one of the most important monuments in Albania. It is a symbol of the Albanian national liberation movement led by Scanderbeg. The castle is near an archaeological site from Antiquity (the city of Albanopolis), and there are also two national museums within the walls of the fortress. All this makes the Fortress of Kruja one of the most visited historical sites in Albania.
