ABOUT THE TREASURE

What: Tradition
Where: Albania, Northern and Southern Albania
When:

If you go to Albania you can hear one really unique kind of singing. There’s no place on Earth where you can hear such songs. A group of singers sing at two, three or four voices while one of them sings the “iso” – a continuous sound which forms a kind of a background of the song. It’s usually the sound “e” but it could be also some part of the song itself. You can hear iso-polyphonic songs at wedding ceremonies, funerals, harvest feasts or at the famous Albanian folk festival in Gjirokastra.
