The natural environment and mild climate of the lake provide food and shelter to two to three million birds of 266 species. They migrate here annually and live among the reeds and willows. In 1976 the park was awarded European Certificate A. On April 4, 1998, the park was entered in the List of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat.
