ABOUT THE TREASURE
This forum was founded by the first Roman emperor, Augustus. Two stone inscriptions show that it was completed in the third century. Occupying a large area, the forum was surrounded by porches and tiered galleries, with shops and workshops below the porches. All that remains of the forum today is the original cobbling and two decorative, monumental columns, one of which is in its original place. During reconstruction of part of the cobbling, experts found traces of an altar that was probably used for blood sacrifices.
