The Cathedral, the monastery and the churches in Dubrovnik
ABOUT THE TREASURE
On the place of the contemporary cathedral there were built 3 churches. In 1672-1713 the last one is built by the famous architect Andrea Bafalini d’Urbin. Today you can see all of the remains from the different periods.
There is a Franciscan Monastery competed in 1317. It is famous for its own pharmacy, one of the oldest in Europe. During the centuries buildings of different styles were built – Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque. Here is one of the most beautiful galleries in Croatia and one of the most prestigious libraries on the Dalmatian coast.
The Baroque Church of St. Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik, was built on the site of an old Gothic church of the same name. Its layout is in the form of a cross, with a dome at the centre. Architect’s unquestionable talent is demonstrated by the main entrance with its four Corinthian columns, by the sculptures, lavish decoration, and stone balustrade of the exterior staircase.
