ABOUT THE TREASURE
Known in Roman times as Aenona, from the seventh century onwards Nin became the main political, cultural and religious centre of the early feudal Croatian state. The city was a capital of the Croatian rulers and a permanent religious centre. Best known of the city’s Croatian heritage sites are the ninth-century Church of the Holy Cross – the ‘smallest cathedral in the world’ – and the Chapel of St. Nicholas from the 11th century.
