You have probably heard of the holy Mount Olympus, which, according to the Ancient Greeks was the home of the Gods. In 1928 archaeologists of the city of Thessaloniki started excavations in the valley at the foot of the mountain, uncovering the ancient town of Dion. The finds showed that the town existed from Ancient Times to the Early Middle Ages. Archaeologists discovered ancient stone-paved streets and buildings of different periods. Private residences, public buildings, shops, a large number of workshops, places of worship, public baths and Christian basilicas were built in blocks defined by streets.
