Ljubljana, The Old Town
ABOUT THE TREASURE
Where: Slovenia, Ljubljana
When: Late Middle Ages, Art Nouveau, Romanticism, Baroque, 20-th Century
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia: a city with soul. You can feel it by walking around the Baroque-styled Old City, located in the outskirts of the Castle Hill, to find the Secession houses and the masterpieces of famous architect Plecnik.
According to the legend, it was Greek hero Jason, who was the city founder. Along with his companions, the Argonauts, Jason stole the golden fleece from King Aites. Running away from him, they sailed from the Black Sea, along the Danube, down the Sava River, thus reaching Ljubljana. However, they had to face another difficulty: the Dragon of Ljubljana. The bold Jason got involved in a fight with the monster and defeated it. Today, this mystic Dragon of Ljubljana features at the top of the Castle Tower on the city’s coat-of-arms.
