Kostanjevica na Krki
ABOUT THE TREASURE
This grand building, located near the city of Kostanjevica, Slovenia, can tell you numerous stories. It was built as monastery in 1234. The church was the first building constructed on the vast meadows. A belfry was built in the 15th century and in the 18th century it was extended and decorated with a new Baroque-styled façade. The monastery buildings were also extended and vast residential premises were built. Yet, in 1786 the biggest Slovenian Baroque-styled monastery lost its religious functions and gradually declined. However, in the 20th century, the place was revived: many people started gathering in the church, at the well in the yard, between the two round towers at the entrance and around the mill. The place is known for its oak sculptures, made by artists from all over the world. You can find them on the meadows around the monastery. All this creates a peculiar mystery that can be felt, only if you visit the monastery at Kostanjevica.
