Roman Remains at Ilidza
ABOUT THE TREASURE
The archaeological excavations prove the existance of that settlement in 1st century. It is situated close to thermal springs. It is presumed that Ilidza is related also to the settling of military veterans in the Sarajevo plain in the second half of the 2nd century. The town underwent considerable development until the 4th century and existed until the 6th century. The discovered remains of several villas reveal the highly developed residential culture of their inhabitants. The walls are decorated with frescoes, while the floors - with mosaics. Of great significance is a well-preserved mosaic found in one of the villas. In the central area of the composition, in an elliptical medallion is depicted the nymph of the thermal springs with her symbols - fish and seahorses.
