Hum is a fortified town with a very specific defense system. The western side of the town is enclosed by wall, while interconnected outer walls of houses defend the three remaining sides. Close to the city gates, you will find the bell tower from16th century. The parish church is built in 1802 on the site of an older church from 1609. Especially valuable are the Classical facade of the church and the frescoes and works of art inside. Here, you will find also the Romanesque Church of St. Jeronim with its valuable frescoes from the 12th –13th century.
In this picturesque town lived for a while St. St. Cyril and Methodius, the brothers from Thessaloniki, with their disciples Clеment, Naum, Anelarius, Sava and Gorazd. They sheltered here in the calmness of the nature and the mystic buildings during their mission. With this tour, Cyril and Methodius spread among the Slavs the Glagolhic alphabet. It was used in these areas until 20th century.
